Webcomics Will Never Be the Same! BOOTHWYN, Pennsylvania, October 20, 2007 – Tony Smith, former editor of Queerbait, announced today that Queeroes.com is now online. Queeroes is an upcoming webcomic that will chronicle the lives of different LGBT individuals who discover that they have special abilities? Sound familiar?
Well, as Smith says on the website, "The idea for Queeroes came to me because I just finished watching the first season of Heroes this week and I love the idea of “normal” people with superpowers. And, by the way, the premise of Heroes is identical to J. Michael Straczynski’s Rising Stars; which first hit comic book store shelves in 1999. I’m not saying anyone copied anything, just saying I don’t feel too bad using a twice-recycled premise as the basis for my new series. Very few ideas are new anymore anyway; it’s all in the spin you put on it." And, what makes Queeroes different than other normal people with super powers stories? Smith elaborates on that as well, "… I started thinking about what if these people with special abilities were all gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered? How would things be different for them? What unique challenges would they face? More importantly, is there a unique reason why only members of the LGBT community would develop special powers? Is there something about them that makes them different? Well, that certainly brings up an interesting question about gays and the nature versus nurture debate doesn’t it?" The most unique thing about Queereoes.com is that there's not actually a comic book there yet. As a special treat for comic book fans, Tony Smith has launched the site as a blog that will detail the creation of the ongoing series from its conception until it launches early next year. Within the first few days, the site has already posted a fully rendered 3D character design, a script excerpt from the first episode, and promises to reveal more behind-the-scenes information as development continues. But, what about the fans, will they get a chance to contribute to the creation of the series? "Absolutely," Smith says, "As of now, the site has a built in commenting feature that lets readers give their input on every post. Since nothing is set in stone yet, those comments will contribute a lot to how I plot the series. And, as I get more scripts written, I'll be launching a 'Guest Artist' program that will allow other artists to contribute their vision to the world of Queeroes."
