Personal Opinion - ENDA-Right vs. ENDA-Lite PDF Print E-mail
Written by Greg Herren

I think signing on to support this and encouraging our elected officials to vote for this, is something that we will regret, and that will haunt us for years to come. I personally would be unable to look at myself in the mirror, or ever look my trans friends in the face ever again.

I am very proud to report that not only did the National Stonewall Democrats violently oppose ENDA-lite, they led the fight against this horrible disgrace, spearheading a write in campaign, calls, petitions, and rallying other LGBT national and local advocacy organizations to the cause...

Except, of course, for the Human Rights Campaign.

That's right. HRC, the big behemoth, the master of merchandising, the fiends of fundraising, who do little to nothing on the local level rather than bleed communities of cash that could be better spent at home, with their celebrity buddies, their boutique in DuPont Circle, and their lovely state of the art forty million dollar office building in the Embassy district of DC, was non-committal at BEST while all this was going, didn't sign on until the very last minute when it was obvious that ENDA-lite was going to be tabled because of the incredibly hard work of NSD and others, and now has the balls to send out a press release taking 'credit' for 'their' victory.

The question asked of Joe McCarthy in the Senate can easily be applied here: HRC, have you no shame?

If the fight for our rights was an actual war, the HRC would be considered Quislings.

It's bad enough that HRC not only was willing to send the trans community to the camps AGAIN (given the choice, the HRC has historically flipped the transfolk the bird, over and over again to the point of predictability), but to sit on the sidelines in silence, waiting to see how the wind was going to blow, and then disgustingly try to take credit for 'leading the fight?'

That's kind of like the Soviet Union declaring war on Japan on August 6, 1945, then taking credit for their surrender a week later.

That's like George W. Bush claiming to lead the fight against global warming.
